Men's 1s 4 - 1 Hampstead & Westminster 1s (A)
The Surbiton Men’s 1s confirmed they will finish Phase 2 at the top of the league table with a 4-1 away win over Hampstead & Westminster on Saturday afternoon.
While finishing top at this stage doesn’t seal any official domestic honours for the 2025/26 campaign, it does confirm Surbiton will compete in next season’s EHL competition and helps the M1 maintain their winning momentum as the big games come thick and fast over the coming weeks.
It took until the 29th minute for Surbiton to get on the scoreboard in the sunshine at Paddington Rec, with Luke Taylor marking his long-awaited return to first team action following injury with a trademark penalty corner. Hampstead equalised with a corner of their own just ahead of half time, but Seals captain Dave Goodfield regained the lead for the away side with a field goal within a minute of the restart.
Adam Buckle scored a rare field goal in the 49th minute following a slick breakaway move and with a penalty corner awarded on the hooter, Taylor completed his double, ripping another flick low into the backboard.
With Old Georgians losing to Holcombe earlier in the day, the 4-1 win confirms Surbiton cannot be caught at the top of the table and also continued their 100% win record for this season. With two home games coming up against Oxted (Sunday 22nd March) and Old Georgians (Saturday 28th March), the M1 will continue to push on with Easter’s EHL KO8 competition in under a fortnight as well as the business end of the domestic season.
