Club DevelopmentThe Club Development Plan identifies areas that require constant monitoring for the season and beyond to maintain a high level of membership and good playing standards. This, in turn, will ensure the Club is run efficiently and with good practice. Whilst the game of hockey is constantly evolving, it is important that the plan keeps abreast of any significant changes and takes steps to instigate them in both the Clubs Seniors and Colts programs.
What We Do
Our overall mission is to provide enjoyable hockey for players of all standards and ages within the context of a family orientated club.
We recognise the need to stay at the top of the game as a club if we are to fulfill our ambitions, and we aim to ensure that what we offer on and off the pitch is attractive to players who will want to stay with us, whether their aspirations are to join our group of Olympians or are rather more modest.
Our club is underpinned by volunteers and employees working effectively within an integrated structure to provide a safe and well organised environment – where young people can learn the game, progress into senior teams and then continue to play at their level, and eventually see their children join the Club.
We currently deliver over 1,400 hours of hockey each season at our Sugden Road ground, which also plays host to a number of significant hockey events during the season. We deliver hockey to over 550 young people a week in our Colts section and have in excess of 350 senior playing members.
We are a Clubs First Accredited Club, and EH Club School Links have been developed to ensure that the high standard of hockey coaching at Surbiton HC is extended into over 25 local schools to allow a wide range of children to experience the benefits of playing hockey. We also have a number of partnerships with Higher Education Institutions, allowing students to play a full part at the Club.
How We Aim To Do It
In 2008 we created a Strategic Development Committee to critically appraise the Club’s structures and operations. Off the pitch, the work undertaken led to a streamlined governance structure being implemented to continue the good work of previous leaderships at the Club, and to ensure effectiveness and transparency were at the heart of everything the Club does.
