New Pitch Opens At Surbiton HC
We have a wonderful new water-based pitch! Saturday 23rd October was a thrilling day for Surbiton HC. After months of planning, construction and delays, the new pitch was finished and in action for the first time. Both of the Club’s top teams’ celebrated by winning their matches on their new home surface. After the cutting of the ribbon on Saturday at noon by the England Hockey Board’s newly-elected president, Simon Mason, the Men’s 1st XI defeated Loughborough Students in a thrilling end-to end eight goal battle in front of a crowd of almost 250. Then, in the afternoon, Surbiton’s newly-promoted Ladies’ 1st XI claimed a 1-0 victory over Old Loughtonians. All sections of the Club were represented on this Grand Opening day, with 32 of the youngest players in the Club accompanying the Men’s and Ladies’ 1st XI teams on to the pitch for the line up.
Spectators were treated to food while they watched and the evening gave way to a Wild West party for members and guests.
The surface selected for the pitch is the new Edel Grass Triple T surface, laid for us by contractors Bernhard’s Sports Surfaces Ltd. The pitch has a new watering system, installed by Irrigation Technology Ltd, with fencing from B & L Fencing Ltd.
England Hockey contributed to the funding of the pitch with a grant from their Capital Investment programme, but there is still a long way to go before the full cost of the pitch can be met. Please give generously via the Future is Now fundraising programme.
The Future is Now campaign aims to raise enough funds to relay both pitches and refurbish the Clubhouse.
Please give generously and see the Club’s facilities improve!
